This handwoven rug has a 100% wool weft (all visible areas) and 100% cotton warp (skeleton of rug, not visible). The design is an adaptation of a traditional Navajo Storm rug. The four rectangles in the corners represent the four sacred mountains of Navajo mythology, the center of the rug represents the hogan, the traditional Navajo home. From the mountains come the storms and the rain which grows the corn, the staff of life. Notice the rain symbols and the corn symbols in the rug.
